High Point University: Sport Culture, or Lack Thereof

   The High Point University Panthers have 16 teams that compete in the Big South Conference.    The men's lacrosse program is the only one that does not, as they compete in the Southern Conference.  Just this past weekend, they won that conference.    How many students paid attention to this big feat? The sport culture inside of High Point University slowly grows as the years pass.    Trying to get more involvement of fans in the school sports is a hard tasks.  At the end of the 2017-2018 school year, a survey was sent school wide on the students' opinions on the school sports and how they can get more involvement.    Many more sports fans come from outside of the gated walls.     "The team is ranked so it definitely brings more involvement. The 2018-2019 Season Story - How Did They Get Here?

As the ball whips into the back of the net, faces filled with elation, exhaustion, and astonishment are seen on the players on the field and the audience watching.  Students, parents, and players cheered alike. The High Point University Panthers have defeated the Duke Blue Devils. The rise of the men’s lacrosse team at High Point University has brought them to the forefront of the conversation, not only in the college lacrosse world, but also that of the students and fans of the team in North Carolina more than ever before. The Panthers have worked harder than ever to win their conference, towards the ultimate goal of winning the NCAA title.   The team, led by Coach Jon Torpey , currently have a 12-2 record. The 2018-2019 season for the High Point University Panthers has been a record-breaking one.  This team has shifted and uplifted the conversation surrounding the program, which has seemingly been gaining recognition in the past couple of years.  A team manager and color broadcaster for the team provide their personal insight on the success of this year's team and how being a successful team has brought more attention to a sports team at a school that arguably does not have a large fan base for sports.
